I randomly started using one and it has CHANGED THE GAME T.T Going straight from in-camera RAW to playing with the image in Snapseed is SO SO FUN and inspiring!! Edit: Mine has USB-C power passthrough (a PWD port in the USB-C shape) as well as a normal/data USB-C port, so I can charge and listen to music while I play with my RAW files. SO SO good aaaah
I love printing little 2×3 pix when I'm with friends. I have the Polaroid one that does it on Zink. The sticker paper is nice and all but I think the Instax quality is better having used both.
I bought a Canon Selphy a while back and used it for a bit before getting a larger Epson printer. After I got the Epson, the Canon sat in the closet forgotten. That is until recently where I took it on a trip to visit family (I definitely cannot bring the Epson lol). Being able to go shoot photos all day and come back to their house and print off 4×6 photos to show made everybody WAY more interested. Most people don't want to watch your slideshow on the TV (or especially not a phone), but they're thrilled to shuffle through a stack of small prints. We were also similarly hypnotized by the printing process itself. Being able to print directly off of the camera's SD card also meant I didn't have to sequester myself to my computer for half an hour before we could start looking through photos and enjoying the process together.
I've messed with the likes of "instant" cameras and printer (a la Polaroids), which are also fun, but it's really quite different. A "proper" 4×6 print feels less beholden to the nostalgia/gimmick of Polaroid frames. Nothing against the latter, it's just its own thing and I find it can be a bit distracting ("oh man, I remember Polaroid!"). The thinner/flatter prints also stack better and actually fit into albums.
As mentioned in the video, the price difference is also very noticeable. The Selphy prints are about a third of the cost, so it was easy to print off a dozen photos (or more) with the Canon. We did the math and figured out it that if you went to the corner drugstore back in the day and got prints made, it cost about as much as the Selphy per print (adjusted for inflation). Except now you can choose to only print the good photos and you can easily print two (or more) of the same photo without having to buy the whole roll as doubles or make a special trip. Everybody can easily get a copy of the group photo.
Also, compared to the big Epson, the Selphy is actually better for 4×6 prints. For one, no worry about filling up spillover sponges/foam when printing borderless, but the Selphy paper and "ink" rolls also don't expire anywhere near as quickly. Ink dries and clogs within a couple weeks, but I've had the Selphy sheets/"ink" for years and had no issues (other than a bit of dust on the first print). The Selphy is no replacement for the Epson nor the other way around.
A good, but somewhat costly, to the Instax Printer is the mini Evo Camera. It's a Hybrid Instax Camera, digital with Build in Printer. So you can shoot as many Pictures you like, without the need to print out every single one. The best Part, it's also a mini Link Printer, so you can send pictures from your Smartphone to the mini Evo and Print them out. The best of two Worlds in my Opinion, but also double the Price of the standalone Printer.
Amazing and would love one but wow Instax Square plus 20 exposures is near $500 Australian. Thats def not cheap unfortunately or at that price the average everyday photographer 🥺
I took all of my favorite pictures of my wife and printed them on the instax and I put them in my hats when I wear one; like a soldier in battle, I remember she's the one I'm fighting for.
Love the Selphy and have used it to give customers "instant prints" during the shoot. For battery power, I connect it to a Bluetti battery bank. Is it heavy? Yes. But I'm already hauling backdrops and lighting gear so it's just one more thing. PS – wish the Zink/HP Sprocket had better print quality as the size and convenience are ideal.

Little printers are such fun. I like Instax for shooting (with a Lomo'Instant Square camera), but haven't tried it for strictly printing. I have the Canon CP1500 as well, and I liked it so much I also got the smaller version that prints on Instax Square-sized sticky-backed sheets. The quality, price, and ease of use is great. Plus no messing around with inks and stuff.
Pssssst you should try instead mini evo or instax wide evo its a hybrid between digital and analog. It might fix your problem with some photos becoming hit and miss.

I’m not happy at all with the Selphy phone app. It’s only free for 3 days then I have to pay a weekly subscription.
Thankfully I discovered that my phone has a “Print” app pre-installed. I just created a Hotspot with my phone, connect the printer to the Hotspot and job done. Exact same image quality as well.
I haven’t had a colour printer for years, and I really missed creating photo albums from my analogue compact camera days.
Where is your photo album from? Really want to make a fun little album for myself 🙂
