Many years ago I dropped into a 24 hour car spares shop late one night. This entire album was playing on the radio, although at the time I had no idea what the piece was, or who the composer might be. Amazingly, the shop staff let the entire thing play, and let me just stand there listening. When it finished, the radio presenter finally gave details of what I had listened to and that was it, I was hooked. Now, in 2025 and aged 77, I still think this is an incredible piece of work and I am still a dedicated fan of Philip Glass.

I am here because of Depeche Mode, now I see why Alan Wilder was mentioned Philip Glass as inspiration, I always felt DM had a classical music vibes infused in their unique music
@tg2832 It is same with me. I'm 65, and although I've known and loved his music for a long time, I thought of him mainly as a composer of film music (the ‘…Katsi’ trilogy, The Illusionist – which I really like as much as the film itself), I started exploring his music recently. and by the way, I don't agree with his classification as a minimalist composer. Although his music is based on cyclical patterns, it doesn't become minimalist because of that. His music is very versatile and rich. Very poetic and meditative at the same time.
I'd like to emphasise one point: I don't usually like to listen to music as a background for doing something: working at a desk or driving. With the music of Philip Glass, surprisingly, it's different. I can't explain this phenomenon.
Still have the vinyl. Fortunate that I knew to pick it up immediately upon release. Amazing!

It was the offers of this old wild world > live, to share, to occupy, to have fun and to live together. Unfortunately, we've been so focused on the era change that we haven't had the time or the awareness to get organized. We watched the world as a rocketing rocket through the sky and bailed out journalists and operetta musicians to set us free. However the spirit is still there, waiting to be recognized and made aware again and again until it is everywhere rising towards the Paradise of utopians and other unconscious dreamers 🌠🕊
I remember 30+ years ago music students I knew were stating that Phil's music is 'inconsequential'. That's the whole point, when the music goes against the tradition of the classical idea of change and just processes a theme and stops, with no resolve. The unsophisticated
scholars who didn't want to move on while mocking Phil's outwardly unsophisticated early compositions, when Phil had a greater understanding of music theory and music history than they. Great composers do not get toppled by those blind to new developments.

I purchased this Album when it first came out in the early 1980s. I have loved his sound ever since! I did not have a name for the feeling back then. It is now emblematic of what it feels like to relax in unmasking as a neurodivergent. And to think that the mass media owes its existence to a bet on flying horses!😂Love it!
Bowie's Blackstar sounds very similar to The Photographer.
