  1. I’m always impressed by the fact that animals don’t mistake photographers for hunters. I can’t imagine what a wild animal thinks a camera is.

  2. There is a PBS program about East Africa's Great Rift Valley. In the book version of it, the journalist says that he inadvertently came near a male lion: When the lion roared, he reports, this animal sounded at the volume of a rock concert! He was so shocked that when he ran away to his jeep his hands trembled so much that he could not place the ignition key to start the jeep.

  3. My scariest encounter out in nature happened when I was running 🏃‍♀️ through the Florida scrub country terrain and burst out into a clearing where I had jumped — down below me were probably a dozen cottonmouth moccasin snakes that were sunning themselves together in a big bunch along the stream. I was already in full run and in the air when I saw where my next step was about to land me. I have no idea how I managed to change directions in mid air and probably could never do it again, even if I tried. Somehow I managed to land the next step away from those snakes.

  4. "Have you had a thrilling encounter with a wild animal before?"

I'm not sure if I would consider this "thrilling", since I'm from southern Canada (Ottawa) 🇨🇦, so animals are generally small here. But I've seen a moose and a have a bird feeder for putting food in. I also feed squirrels. 🐿️☺️
