LJust finished my second wedding. Should have watched this. “Should have”, something Ive said 20 times on these last two weddings. Learning via mistakes.
On point and exactly the way I see it too. There has to be some "hero" images as well, but the family and emotions photos are going to be the most valuable in the future.
15 years into wedding photography and brides demand more and more "snap shoots". But what I realized, they do not actually mean snap shoots. Those type of images can turn out pretty ugly and unflattering. Instead, they love the staged images, where the couple has something to do.
1. Reactions (0:40 – 1:24): Capturing how people react to key moments-such as a groom's expression when he first sees the bride or a family member's emotional response during the ceremony.
2. Quiet Moments (1:25 – 2:00): Small, intimate, and often overlooked moments that happen between the main events, which feel more authentic and emotionally charged.
3. Natural Photos of People (2:01 – 3:37): Moving beyond posed group shots to capture genuine interactions, laughter, and connections among friends and family, which become invaluable memories over time.
4. Atmosphere (3:38 – 4:12): Photos that convey how the day felt, such as the energy on the dance floor or the laughter during speeches, bringing the experience of the day back to life.
5. Natural Photos of the Couple (4:13 – 5:30): Instead of stiff,
model-like posing, focus on creating natural scenarios-like walking or talking-that allow the couple to feel comfortable, relaxed, and genuinely themselves.
Great video! I do feel like a photographers job is to master shooting to such a level that they nail settings more often than not without thinking or putting energy into that-that’s why people pay us the big bucks-to know how to capture photos properly and operate a camera and take pleasing images
Once thats mastered all the energy can go to catching moments. Case in point, all the examples in the video are not only great moments but also aesthetically beautiful and well photographed.
I refuse to do weddings, the photos are so formal and horrible but I will do candid wedding photos for friends though and they are far more popular than the official photos.
And they don’t care about what camera you are using. Don’t fall into the sales trap that smallpicture or f/1.2 necessary. I work wit m43 and small f/1.8 primes for years now.
