A place I've always desired to shoot but never had the opportunity even though I've been through there countless times. These badlands remind me of those in my region of western North Dakota/eastern Montana… Some of the slickest mud known to mankind! lol Each of our badlands are similar yet distinctive (much like when I compare Badlands NP in South Dakota to the badlands of Theodore Roosevelt NP or Makoshika State Park in Glendive, MT) and their geology always fascinates me when out shooting.
Some beautiful images resulted from your jaunt. It really is all about timing the light when visiting such places and having the patience to wait for that soft light resulted in beautiful results.
I roam a LOT of very remote places in an old 2007 GMC Envoy that is 2-wd, so I'm always aware of when to say when. I've been a lot of places that many think are accessible only with 4-wd but one really must be able to "read" the terrain. I've never desired to make an epic hike to the nearest cell service and/or "town" for help.
I'm thrilled that you found the exact area I ran around placing rocks on top of many spires. I hope someone finds the other places i did this😂😂😂😂
That slick, sticky mud is probably bentonite clay.

I’ve just come down to Tucson from 8 days of photography in the San Juan Basin. Unfortunately I skipped Bisti/Ah She because of a day of rain and having watched your earlier video. Alas, next time perhaps! This video sure stimulated my interest again.
